LOVE AT FIRST SOUND
Most everyone that gets into broadcasting has dreamt of “calling games” since they were a very small child. For Jason Ross, it was a bit different, he had no plans for that. He wanted to be in those games that were being described by professionals. Reality hit in 1992 when the basketball coaches at UC Davis realized that Ross didn’t have quite enough to make the squad. The team’s loss, became the sports world’s gain. When the first game came around and Jason was asked to broadcast, a relationship was born. From the very first time the “mic was hot,” Ross connected with the audience in a way that is relatable, likable, informative, honest and fun.
For over two decades Jason Ross has worked in all aspects of sports broadcasting. Radio and television have been constant staples of his passion and his never ending dedication to the craft is evident. From starting out and learning quickly, to now mentoring and giving back, the cycle continues to play itself out.
Ross has now worked for the Sacramento Kings organization for 26 seasons, in radio at the same station Sports 1140 KHTK for 26 years as well and is going to begin his 24th season of calling games for Sacramento State Football in the Fall of 2020. Jason's skill set has also afforded him opportunities to work with the Raiders, the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA and for the XFL.
Jason’s career has been a steady progression of success while learning, leading, and following. The relationship that began in 1992 is stronger now than ever as Ross is battle tested. He is still as relatable, likeable, more knowledgeable, honest and just as fun as ever.
